I had the Gastric Sleeve Surgery on Sept 23rd with Dr Umbach in Nevada. I can’t say enough of great things about Dr Umbach and his wife Holly. I was from out of town and they made the surgery process stress free without any difficulties.

Dr Umbach is very knowledgeable about gastric surgeries and extremely professional. My surgery went very smoothly. I had no complications and I am now entering my three week post op and I feel great. I just wanted to post on my wonderful experience in Mexicali with Dr. Thomas Umbach and Surgery Advisors.  Dr Umbach is an American doctor with a bariatric clinic in Henderson, NV, but he also does performs surgery in Mexico part time.

I was a bit apprehensive at first to have this procedure done in Mexico by a doctor that I had never met, but it couldn’t have gone better.  Surgery Advisors worked side by side with me the whole way to make sure everything was taken care of and that all of my questions were answered.  The care and attention that I received was amazing.

I live in Alaska, and was super impressed with how Dr Umbach was so accommodating and available to help me prepare for this weight loss journey.  We had regular phone check-ins where he gave me a list of tasks to accomplish to prepare for my procedure.   I flew into San Diego where my personal surgery coordinators from Surgery Advisors picked me up and personally escorted me to Mexicali where I met up with Dr. Umbach.  They stayed with me during my recovery time and then drove me back to San Diego to catch my plane home.

The surgery and recovery went perfectly and I have nothing but rave reviews to give this surgeon. I am very excited that Blossom Bariatrics, Center of Excellence certified Weight Loss Center in Las Vegas is now offering another option for patients seeking weight loss surgery. Unfortunately, many patients cannot get their operation done, be it lap band, realize band, gastric bypass, gastric sleeve resection, or stomaphyx, simply because their particular insurance does not cover gastric bariatric surgery of any kind.

Personally, I think this is a travesty because it is well proven that weight loss surgery gives patients a happier, longer, and much healthier life. But please don’t get me started on “health” insurance companies.

It has more art work and modern equipment than most hospitals in the United States. My daughter, Taylor, toured the hospital with me and said it was the nicest hospital that she had ever been in! Third, this hospital has a fantastic reputation with Americans because people have been going down there for years for their operations.

I have met the hospital owner and administrators and can say this is not a fly by night operation. They are constantly investing and upgrading their hospital, rather than trying to make as much money as possible this quarter. I wish I could say the same for hospitals in the US.

Finally, we have an entire program set up. Patients are picked up in San Diego and driven directly to their hotel room, which is close to the hospital. You can expect wonderful personalized care in the hospital during surgery and can return home in a few days. Yes we are very excited to offer this low cost weight loss surgery option.

As a Surgeon, I am fellowship trained, Center of Excellence surgeon who specializes in weight loss and was recognized as one of “ America’s Top Surgeon 2008”.
