Hi, I’m Michelle Phelan, nutritionist at Blossom Bariatrics. Today we are going to answer some frequently asked questions from our patients.
Karen, from Tampa Bay, Florida writes, “I saw on Dr. Oz that people should eat more healthy fats. I had a sleeve procedure eight months ago. Can I add more fats? And what kind?”
Well Karen, yes it is important to eat healthy fats every day. Fats are a macronutrient, just like protein, and some carbohydrates, so you do need to eat them every day to stay healthy.
The fats I recommend for my bariatric patients are delicious and healthy monounsaturated fats, such as the fats found in avocados, nuts, seeds, and many nut butters.
Coconut oil is another alternative for a healthy fat and it is wonderful to cook with. It is very steady at high heat.
Another great option for a delicious monounsaturated fat is olive oil. This works great on any salad or any meal of choice.
As always, make sure to take your fish oil supplement every day for those very beneficial Omega 3 Fatty Acids.
I hope you found this information useful. If you have any additional questions, please visit us at www.blossombariatrics.com.
Until next time. Have a healthy day.
