Staying Hydrated Post Bariatric Weight Loss Surgery

Hi, I’m Michelle Phelan, nutritionist at Blossom Bariatrics. Today we are going to answer some frequently asked questions from our patients.

Samantha from Colorado Springs, Colorado, writes, “My nutritionist told me that it’s really important to stay hydrated. I can’t drink very quickly and find it hard to get in a lot of fluids. What kinds of fluids are best and how much?”

Well Samantha, you are right. You need at least 64 ounces of fluid a day to stay hydrated. I like to tell my patients, “Try the 80/20 rule. Eighty percent of your fluid intake should be water and 20% could be other alternatives, such as sugar free fluids, like green tea, herbal tea, and other water-enhanced drinks, like Skinny Girl water enhancers and Crystal Light Pure.”

Both of these products use Stevia for the sweetener and are a healthier option.

I hope you found this information useful. If you have any additional questions, please visit us at www.blossombariatrics.com.

Until next time. Have a healthy day.
