Matthew E. Apel, MD, FACS, FASMBS completed his residency in General Surgery at the University of Arizona. He then joined the Division of General Surgery/Section of Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery at The University of Arizona as a Clinical Fellow. During his fellowship, he further developed his skills in advanced bariatric surgery procedures. He is also certified in using the robotic da Vinci Surgical System as a Console Surgeon. Dr. Matt’s passion for bariatric surgery is rooted in his desire to help patients’ not only improve, or resolve, many of their medical conditions, but also boost their self-esteem, quality of life, and overall happiness. He feels that it is an honor and a privilege to be part of each patient’s journey to a new, happier you! He regularly attends meetings and conferences to make sure he provides you with state-of-the-art quality and care. At home, he is further blessed with a beautiful family: his wife, Christine, two kids, Eliana and Elijah, and two dogs, Charlie and Blue.
