My Journey Is Still Going

My name is Teresa and I had my surgery a year-and-a-half ago.

Coming up to the surgery, I was terrified. I thought that it was going to be like other surgeries I’d had in the past with a long recovery.

I was very reassured by the staff here at Blossom. Dr. Tom was fabulous.

The day of the surgery they took such good care of me and that evening I was up and walking around. By the end of the weekend, I didn’t feel like I had gone through anything surgical.

Everything changed as far as the way I was eating and what felt right, but it wasn’t painful–it wasn’t hard! Staying on my diet was very easy.

I’ve been wanting to do this my entire adult life. I have struggled through every diet you can imagine, but at the end of the day I just couldn’t do it on my own. It just wasn’t going to happen.

I came to Blossom–I have three grandchildren…well, two at the time; the third one was on her way–and I wanted to be able to get down on the floor and play with them. I wanted to be active. We have four daughters; I wanted to spend more time doing stuff, rather than wishing I could do stuff.

Now, 100 lbs later, I’m there. Now, it hasn’t cured every one of my health issues, because not every one of my issues was weight-related, but my cholesterol is down.

When I came a year ago, Dr. Tom couldn’t promise me how much I was going to lose; it would all depend on how well I followed the program. I could barely dream that I would lose this much, and I have the tools now to continue losing. I’m not done.

My journey is still going. If I never lose another pound, that’s ok! I like me.

My husband–we’re going to celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary next year. He came to Blossom just a few months ago and had his surgery and he’s down 80 lbs. Between us, we’ve lost a rather big adult and next year for our 30th Wedding Anniversary, we’re going to do our Vow Renewal; we’re going to have that wedding we never had.

When we talked about doing the surgery–I’ve had surgery in the past, so I knew that it wasn’t going to be a pleasant experience–I expected to take a couple weeks to recover, but the reality was that it wasn’t a big deal to me.

I really feel that I have the tools now to never go there again and it’s my goal to lose some more. If I lose it–great! If I don’t, that’s OK, too. I like me! I like where I’m at 95 lbs later I’m a happy girl. I would not hesitate to do it again.

If I had anything…any opportunity to change any of the choices I’ve made, the only choice I would have made differently would to be have gone for it sooner.
