I was 50 years old and I had a grandson that was born and it wore me out to hold him–he was 4 months old.
My weight kept ballooning and ballooning. I had a hysterectomy 7 years prior and my primary care physician suggested that I come see Dr. Umbach.

So, on October 23rd, 2014, I came up here and I had my surgery with Dr. Umbach. I had no complications at all. None!
I had a really bad hernia that he repaired–that was a little sore and a little weird, though. But he called me at home, he told me it was totally normal–just gave me support.
I’ve been able to call the nutritionist–I had some problems with my thiamin levels; she gave me directions on what to eat, what I could ‘up.’ It’s been a little bumpy, just trying to figure out your new eating lifestyle when you’re used to being a bad eater.
I can say now I’m more of a clean eater. I splurge every once in a while, but it’s a bite…maybe two. Not two whole bowls of ice cream.
So I started at 267. The two-week pre-op diet I got down to 248–so the date of my surgery I was at 248.
It has been a year and I’m at 186 with my jeans on, so it added a couple of pounds to me, but that’s OK! I still want to lose 40 lbs and it will happen. I’m going to give myself another year. It didn’t come on fast; it’s not going to go off fast.
I’ve learned to eat healthier, make better choices, and I get to play with my grandkids. I can run through mud puddles with them. I can get up and go to work. I can run up and down the hallways and not feel like I’m going to die, and now I’m back in Vegas and for the next three days I get to go play!
Dr. Umbach and all of his staff have been wonderful; I would recommend them to anybody. I feel great!
