My name is Robert Beninger, Dr. Bob. I have a background in podiatric medicine. Then I went to law school. I have been a lawyer for over 20 years, after practicing podiatry for 11 years.
I had my gastric sleeve surgery on June 9th, of just last year, that’s 2011. I was 269 pounds and now I have lost between 75 and 80 pounds and I am maintaining that right now.
It seems like my body is kind of catching up to the rapid weight loss. Just the weekend before that, my wife and I flew down to San Antonio and I saw my oldest grandchild graduate from high school. It took me a half an hour to get from the car, into the stadium, into the where the graduation was going on. Both feet hurt.
With my medical background I knew that diabetes too was just around the corner. Of course, I was having sleep apnea and problems with breathing. I knew I had to do something.
It has been unbelievably successful. People do not recognize me. They have to look at me for a few seconds and then it registers that it’s Dr. Bob.
I have so much more energy. I go for walks now in the morning and I am back to doing my Karate forms and techniques. I am just very thrilled.
I am very thrilled with the staff, with Dr. Umbach, and all the support that I got from them. I am very pleased also, with the people at the surgery center, where I went to have the surgery performed. They were all so nice to me. It has been one of the best decisions I have made in my whole life.
Talking about change, wow, that’s real change. I want to thank again, the doctor, the staff, everybody who was involved in the surgery, and my friends who helped me. They sat by me for a few days just to make sure that I was all right and everything went well.
