Alternatives to Whey Protein

Hi, I’m Michelle Phelan, Nutritionist at Blossom Bariatrics and today we’re going to discuss a few very helpful tips for bariatric patients. Today I’m going to talk about some alternatives to whey protein. So if you’re tired of your whey protein powder, or you just can’t stand it anymore. Sometimes you develop an intolerance to your whey powder, or if you’re just plain allergic to all things dairy, there are some alternatives. You can actually look into purchasing a plant-based protein powder. Lately they’ve been becoming really delicious and creamy, not grainy like you think that they would. So some of the best ones out there are still no sugar added or sugar free. You can get chocolate, vanilla, strawberry. They’re getting very creative with the flavors just like the whey protein powder companies. Typically you’re going to look for rice and pea protein, sometimes just pea protein works. Sometimes you’ll see it with hemp, or rice, or pea protein mixed. All of these foods together create complete amino acid chains.
