Does Whey Protein Work?

Hi, I’m Michelle Phelan, Nutritionist at Blossom Bariatrics and today we’re going to discuss a few very helpful tips for bariatric patients. Today I’m going to discuss three really great reasons why whey protein powder works. The first one is it’s small volume for really high reward, which means that one scoop of whey protein powder typically gives someone about 20-25 grams of protein. Now, do you know how much chicken breast you’d have to eat to get at least 25 grams of protein? That’s a good 3.5 to 5 ounces of chicken breast and you know that your pouch, or your sleeve should not be able to accommodate that. The second reason why whey protein powder works is because it crowds out poor choices. Usually it’s best if you use a whey protein smoothie or a shake if you are craving something sweet or you feel like you need dessert. Oftentimes if you’re hungry, protein is the choice you should make. Or if you miss a meal, protein shakes can make a great meal replacement. The third reason why whey protein is a wonderful idea is because they’re easy to mix and easy to digest and assimilate. So whey protein, again, is really easy to get down and it’s very easy for your body to assimilate and metabolize.
